Pubblicato nel 1969 dalla Blue Note, il primo di una serie di volumi commemorativi realizzati in occasione del trentennale della celebrata etichetta jazz fondata a New York nel 1939. Questo primo volume compila brani tratti da dischi della Blue Note incisi nel suo primo decennio di attivita', fra il 1939 ed il 1949, epoca di swing e be bop (ma in questi solchi ascoltiamo anche testimonianze di stili jazz piu' antichi). Troviamo qui brani incisi da artisti del calibro di Thelonious Monk, Albert Ammons, Sidney Becht, Tadd Dameron e James Moody, solo per citare i nomi piu' illustri, personaggi che hanno fatto la storia del jazz di quegli anni, insieme alla label Blue Note.
